A record turnout of 26,741 voters – smashing the previous record of 10,000 – gave the 46-year-old around 80% of the vote for a crushing triumph.
Speaking after emerging president, Villas-Boas said:“I want to convey my gratitude to Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa for everything he has given to our FC Porto, the life he gave to FC Porto and guarantee him that it will always be his home.
“I hope to correspond fully to the demands of all Portistas: to win, to lift trophies and to build a sustainable club for the future.
“We have a long mission ahead of us. It will take arduous work in a house that has to be restructured, sorted out and reorganised.”
Porto are third in the standings of the Portuguese championship, with 62 points, 18 points behind the leaders Sporting Lisbon.
Villas-Boas was appointed Chelsea manager in June 2011 but was sacked in March 2012 and was replaced by his assistant Roberto Di Matteo.
Under Di Matteo, Chelsea went on to win the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
The last club Villas-Boas managed was Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille.
He has also previously managed clubs like Tottenham Hotspur Shanghai SIPG, and Academica Coimbra.
Meanwhile, Porto have four games remaining in the league.
The Dragons can no longer finish in the top two, but will play the Portuguese Cup final against Sporting Lisbon on 26 May.
