Canada appoints Marsch as head coach of national team ahead of next month’s Copa America

Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has been appointed as the coach of the Canadian men’s national team, as announced by Canada Soccer on Monday, just over five weeks before the team faces Argentina in the Copa America opener.

Jesse Marsch, an American, will be taking over from Mauro Biello, who was serving as interim coach after John Herdman left the position last August to join Toronto FC in Major League Soccer.

The announcement of Marsch’s appointment was made by Canada Soccer CEO Kevin Blue in a video shared on social media.

“I am about to contact Jesse Marsch to confirm that he will be the next head coach of our Canadian men’s national team,” Blue stated in the video. “We have been working hard to make this happen and are thrilled to finally have everything in place.”

Marsch then joined the call and expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am extremely grateful for your trust and confidence in me. I promise to repay that trust in every way possible. This team will be something that the entire Canadian community will be proud of.”

Canada is scheduled to play against the Netherlands on June 6th and France on June 9th before their Copa America match against Argentina on June 20th.
