Stephen Curry named the winner of the 2023-24 Magic Johnson Award

Stephen Curry, the renowned player for the Golden State Warriors, has been announced as the recipient of the 2023-24 Magic Johnson Award by the Professional Basketball Writers Association. This prestigious award, which recognizes outstanding performance on the court as well as exemplary conduct towards the media and fans, is voted on by over 200 writers and editors who are members of the PBWA.

This marks Curry’s second time receiving the Johnson award, having previously won it in 2016. He joins the ranks of Damian Lillard (2017, 2020) and Shane Battier (2007, 2013) as the only other players to have won the award twice.

The list of finalists for this year’s award included Curry, Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), DeMar DeRozan (Chicago Bulls), Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves), and Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers).

Throughout his illustrious 15-season career since being drafted by the Warriors as the 7th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, Curry has amassed numerous accolades. He has been named a two-time league MVP, a four-time NBA champion, a ten-time All-Star, a four-time All-NBA first-team selection, and a member of the league’s 75th Anniversary Team.

In the 2022-23 season, Curry was honored with the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award and was recognized as the Social Justice Champion, earning the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Trophy.

During the 2023-24 season, Curry showcased his exceptional skills by averaging 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. His remarkable performance earned him the title of Clutch Player of the Year.
