Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has said South Africa will approach Friday’s World Cup qualifier with revenge in their mind.
The Eagles will host South Africa on matchday 3 of the qualifiers inside the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
At the AFCON 2023 semi-finals the Eagles edged Hugo Broos’ side 4-2 on penalties after regulation time ended 1-1.
Ahead of Friday’s game, Ndidi believe the 1996 AFCON winners will want to avenge the semi-final loss.
“They’ll come for revenge and for we as a team, we know that we are actually expecting that because it’s not going to be an easy game. When they look back and know the fact that we actually knocked them out in the semifinal.”
Ndidi lamented the late arrival of some Eagles players due to Monday’s Labour strike.
“To be honest, it has affected the preparation because normally we’re supposed to start training on Saturday and like three days gone and we’ve not been together, you know, like.
“I think it has affected the team in some way where like we’re supposed to be know what we’re actually doing, how to approach the game, but we haven’t been able to do that.
“But I think a few of them coming in today and then the others coming in tomorrow, I think will be a great addition for us to like prepare quicker.”
The Leicester City midfielder said the performance of the Eagles at the AFCON 2023 has raised the standard of the team.
“The way we perform at the AFC has actually raise some standards and then the expectations now is really, really high.”
