2026 WCQ: Tanimu Upbeat About Super Eagles World Cup Qualification Hopes

Benjamin Tanimu has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite their struggles in the qualifiers.

The Eagles recorded their third straight draws after coming from a goal down to draw 1-1 with South Africa in Friday’s Group C,matchday 3 clash in Uyo.

Under former coach Jose Peseiro, the AFCON 2023 finalist recorded 1-1 draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

After three games played in the qualifiers, the Eagles are in fifth place.

Reacting to the disappointing draw against South Africa Tanimu, who put in an impressive performance, expressed confidence that the World Cup ticket will be secured.

“I feel sad over the result as that’s not how we wanted it,” Tanimu wrote on his X handle.

“But trust me, the journey will end well!”

The Eagles will now hope to record their first win in the qualifiers when they travel to Côte d’Ivoire to face Benin Republic.

Benin Republic got their first win thanks to a 1-0 win against Rwanda which place them in third position on four points.

Lesotho also secured their first win after beating Zimbabwe 2-0 away and currently top the group.

The winner in each of the nine groups will directly qualify to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by the United State, Mexico and Canada.

Also, the four best group runners-up will participate in play-offs to determine which team will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs.
