Manchester City have unveiled their away kit for the 2024/25 season, paying homage to their play-off victory from 1999.
The Cityzens earned promotion to the old First Division after coming back from a 2-0 deficit against Gillingham at Wembley Stadium, with Kevin Horlock striking before Paul Dickov dramatically equalised in the 95th minute.
City then triumphed 3-1 on penalties to go up and this latest Puma kit is a tribute to one of the club’s most iconic moments in their history, bringing back the navy blue shirt with neon yellow strikes and blue on the collar and sleeve.
Club ambassador and former striker Dickov said: “It’s fantastic to see this year’s away kit revealed today.
“The 1999 play-off final victory still remains a special moment for myself and City fans around the world and I know the kit from that day is remembered by those who were there and beyond.
“It’s a wonderful gesture by the club and Puma to commemorate the anniversary with this year’s away kit.”
The kit is made using the RE:FIBRE initiative, which uses recycled textile waste to create more sustainable jerseys, and Puma’s dryCELL technology to keep players and fans dry.
The club’s home shirt was released back in May, with the ‘0161’ dialling code of Manchester referenced alongside their traditional sky blue colour.
After their triumph at Wembley in 1999, City went on to achieve promotion to the Premier League. They were relegated in their first season back in top flight but returned for the 2002/03 campaign and have remained ever since.
They have since won league titles under Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola, becoming one of the most feared teams around Europe under the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss.
