Brazil and the United States will meet in the women’s soccer final at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games to see which side gets to take home the gold medal.

Brazil faced the hardest road to the gold medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Selecao were sorted into a tough Group C with Spain, Japan, and Nigeria, and then had to face France and Spain in the knockout rounds without Marta. Still, Arthur Elias’ squad defied the odds and defeated two of the favorites to win the tournament, and earned themselves a spot in the women’s soccer final.

The U.S. Women’s National Team, on the other hand, came into the tournament with plenty of expectations to bring home a record fifth gold medal, their first since 2012. The USWNT have remained perfect at the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning all five of their matches and conceding just two goals along the way. Now, the Stars and Stripes’ final test will come against Brazil at the Parc des Princes.

For the first time since the group stage, Brazil will have their captain back in the starting XI. Marta served her two-game suspension after being sent off against Spain for a dangerous high boot on Olga, and will play her final Olympics match for a gold medal.

Despite injuries to Tamires, Rafaelle, and Antonia, the Selecao has only conceded two total goals in their last two matches against France and Spain. Lauren was stretchered off the pitch in the semi-finals, though, and would be a huge blow if she is not fit for the final.

After missing the United States’ matches against Australia and Japan, Tierna Davidson returned to the starting XI alongside Naomi Girma in the semi-finals. The center-back only played the first 45 minutes, but her appearance was a great sign for the USWNT’s backline heading into the gold medal match.

Expect the rest of Emma Hayes’ XI to remain unchanged, despite a poor showing from Lindsey Horan against Germany. Rose Lavelle also should be ready to go on Saturday after only playing 60 minutes last match to monitor a knock she picked up in the quarter-finals.

Brazil have proven the doubters wrong and have a good chance at writing a storybook ending to their summer in France with a gold medal for Marta. They were impressive against both France and Spain, but the United States will be another huge test for the Selecao. Emma Hayes’ squad has the best backline in the entire tournament, and arguably, the best front three.

If Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith, and Mallory Swanson continue their current run of form, then no one will be able to stop the USWNT from winning their fifth gold medal.
