Liverpool are closing in on their second signing of the summer in Manchester United defender Gemma Evans, according to reports.
It’s been a quiet summer on Merseyside with just one addition to note so far. The Reds kicked off their transfer business with the acquisition of Sporting CP midfielder Olivia Smith at the beginning of July.
Now, according to BBC journalist Emma Sanders, United’s Evans is close to moving to Liverpool on a permanent deal. The report states negotiations have been positive and all parties are confident the move will be completed.
Evans, a Wales international, has represented the likes of Cardiff City and Yeovil Town throughout her career. The 28-year-old then had spells at Bristol City and Reading prior to her move to Manchester last summer.

Last season, Evans made 19 appearances across all competitions under Marc Skinner and registered one assist in that time. However, only 12 of those appearances came in the Women’s Super League.
United have been active in the transfer market this summer and acquired Dominique Janssen on a free transfer from Wolfsburg. They’ve also signed Swedish left back Anna Sandberg, which has opened the door for Evans to depart.
Liverpool begin their 2024/25 WSL campaign on September 22 against Leicester City. United, on the other hand, kick their season off against West Ham on September 21.
