Manchester United came agonisingly close to adding another trophy to their cabinet at the expense of Manchester City on Saturday.
Alejandro Garnacho’s strike put Erik ten Hag’s side ahead in the Community Shield, only for Bernardo Silva to strike late with City’s first shot on target and send the game to penalties, where Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans failed to convert.
Here are United’s best and worst players according to 90min‘s player ratings.

He may have only been on the pitch for 30 minutes, but Garnacho undoubtedly made his presence known once again.
A wonderfully taken goal looked to have fired United to another triumph over City, who looked panicked at the back after his introduction.
The man who gave his place to Garnacho, Amad Diallo spent his 60 minutes on the pitch causing serious problems for Josko Gvardiol.
Amad was involved in nearly everything positive from United, with the young winger further cementing his new-found status as a favourite of Erik ten Hag’s here.
Jonny Evans – 4/10

Missing the decisive penalty capped off a truly frustrating afternoon for Evans, who never looked settled in United’s back line.
With Lisandro Martinez forced to play left-back because of United’s continued injury issues, there was no escape for Evans, whose performances contained a number of unforced mistakes.
Dishonourable mention
Diogo Dalot – 5/10

Jeremy Doku completely dominated Diogo Dalot during the first half, tearing past United’s right-back at every possible invitation.
On the day news of United’s move for Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui was made public, this was not the performance Dalot would have wanted.
