Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has given fans reason to be excited about Mohamed Salah this season, declaring that the Egyptian superstar is in outstanding physical shape.

Salah suffered a hamstring injury at January’s Africa Cup of Nations and struggled for the remainder of the season, even when back playing. It resulted in his lowest number of appearances (44) in a single campaign since joining the club, as well as his lowest Premier League goal tally (18).

Speculation that Salah, who turned 32 in June, is on the decline was rife. But he went some way to extinguishing such perceptions with a goal and assist in Liverpool’s opening day 2-0 win over newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

“Every year he comes back in even better shape than he was the season before. He was one of the players who had a longer summer which was hugely beneficial to him. He managed to get a full pre-season under his belt and looks fit and sharp,” Robertson said of Salah.

While a number of Liverpool players were in action at Euro 2024 and the Copa America well into July, Salah’s summer break was able to begin as soon as he was done with a pair of 2026 World Cup qualifiers for Egypt in early June and he is seemingly reaping the rewards.

“Mo looks after his body exceptionally well,” Robertson added. “He’s a model professional and someone everyone looks up to. He leaves no stone unturned and that’s why he’s still in incredible shape. Long may that continue. If our main man is playing like that then it’s going to help the team.”

As it stands, Salah is on course to become a free agent in ten months’ time. His current Liverpool contract is due to expire at the end of this season, with no new deal agreed. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are in similar boats, with Salah in particular linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
