WSL predictions: Gameweek 4

Gameweek 4 of the Women’s Super League gets underway this weekend with some huge fixtures set to take place.

The big game is Chelsea’s visit to the Emirates Stadium as they face Arsenal after both teams were in Champions League action midweek. Elsewhere, Liverpool will stage the first of three women’s games at Anfield this season when they host Manchester City.

At the bottom of the table, Everton and West Ham will battle it out for their first wins of the season, while Crystal Palace will hope to build on their victory against Leicester City last time out. The Foxes travel to Aston Villa in a bid to bounce back from that damaging result.

Here’s how 90min projects Gameweek 4 in the WSL to unfold.

WSL matches do not get much bigger than this. It’s one of the blockbuster games of the season and all eyes will be on the Emirates this weekend.

Chelsea have had a strong start to the season across all competitions, while Arsenal have dropped points in two of their three WSL games so far. In the Champions League, they also suffered a 5-2 loss at the hands of Bayern Munich.

These games are always tight and fiercely contested, but Chelsea are in better form heading into Saturday’s fixture. Sonia Bompastor’s side should have enough to get through this one unscathed.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea

In a replay of last season’s FA Cup final, this meeting between Manchester United and Tottenham is slightly tougher to call. Robert Vilahamn’s side had the better of the Red Devils in a pre-season friendly, but United have started the season much stronger than their upcoming opponents.

Spurs have won just one of their three WSL games so far, whereas United are currently unbeaten. It won’t be easy for Marc Skinner’s side, but they’re well placed to win this one.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-0 Tottenham

It’s early in the season but this is already a match up between two teams battling at the bottom of the table. A win for either side here would be a significant boost after difficult starts.

Everton are on the verge of an injury crisis but produced a shock result when they drew with Arsenal at the Emirates last time out. West Ham also fought back to draw 1-1 against Liverpool in their second game, so this will likely be a tightly contested encounter with little to separate the teams.

Prediction: Everton 2-2 West Ham

Following their opening two games of the season, things appeared bleak for newly promoted Crystal Palace. However, on the back of a 7-0 thumping at the hands of Chelsea, Laura Kaminski’s side secured a 2-0 victory away at Leicester City last time out.

Brighton, on the other hand, have had a strong start to the season and could be the surprise package of the 2024/25 campaign. It will be another stern test for Palace, who will be brimming with confidence after their recent win, but the Seagulls are in such good form it’s difficult to see them dropping off this weekend.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-2 Brighton

Aston Villa and Leicester City have endured very similar starts to the new season. They’ve each drawn one and lost two.

Robert de Pauw’s side have looked strong in moments, but results ultimately haven’t gone their way. The Foxes, on the other hand, were only narrowly beaten against Arsenal in Gameweek 2 but were comfortably defeated by Palace just a week later.

Given Villa are at home, they should have enough to pick up their first league win of the season. Amandine Miquel’s side will also be devoid of confidence following last week’s loss.

Prediction: Aston Villa 3-2 Leicester City

Sunday’s meeting will be the first of three Liverpool fixtures to take place at Anfield this season. Unfortunately for the Reds, it’s tough to see them taking anything off Manchester City.

Gareth Taylor’s side were in Champions League action midweek as they produced a shock win against Barcelona and will have a spring in their step going into the weekend. Liverpool may have the Anfield crowd behind them, but City look unstoppable at this point.

Prediction: Liverpool 0-3 Manchester City
