Manchester United have endured a miserable start to the new campaign and, much like last season, injuries have exacerbated the crisis at Old Trafford.

While Erik ten Hag can’t use injuries as an excuse for his side’s disjointed displays, the busy treatment room certainly doesn’t make his job any easier. Defence and midfield have been particularly injury-hit at the beginning of 2024/25.

The October international break has provided respite for Ten Hag under increasing pressure and has allowed some of his first-teamers a rare break. However, others have been globe-trotting over the past fortnight and will need to be assessed on their return to Manchester.

Here is all the latest Man Utd injury news.

Man Utd splashed a significant sum on Leny Yoro over the summer but the teenager is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Red Devils. A foot injury sustained during a pre-season friendly with Arsenal has left him sidelined for the entirety of the season thus far after undergoing surgery.

However, Yoro is making strides in his recovery and he could well make his return to the first-team squad in November. Initial reports suggested he would be sidelined for three months and there has been no evidence of any setbacks in his recovery.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw has missed the entirety of the 2024/25 season for Man Utd after being absent for large chunks of last campaign, too. The left-back hasn’t been spotted since Euro 2024 but should make his comeback from a calf problem in the coming weeks.

In fact, there is a slim chance that the injury-prone defender features against Brentford at Old Trafford this Saturday.

Tyrell Malacia

Man Utd fans haven’t seen Tyrell Malacia in action since the 2022/23 season, with the Dutchman having spent last term recovering from knee surgery. Ten Hag made it clear that he was still a few months away from action at the start of this term.

Several months have now passed and Malacia should be closing in on a return. There are slim hopes that he will be available immediately after the October international break, although Man Utd will undoubtedly take their time when reintroducing him into the matchday squad.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire had scored a late equaliser against Porto in the Europa League prior to his journey to Villa Park, but the centre-back’s luck changed as he was withdrawn at half-time during the goalless draw with Aston Villa.

Speaking on Instagram, Maguire said: “Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sidelines for me but I’ll come back stronger.”

Noussair Mazraoui

Noussair Mazraoui had to withdraw from the Morocco squad over the October break to undergo corrective surgery after suffering heart palpitations. It’s unclear when he will return to action but Morocco manager Walid Regragui has provided an update on his situation.

“Noussair Mazraoui is not suffering from a dangerous illness. We hope he will be with us in the next camp in November,” stated Regragui.

Manuel Ugarte

Manuel Ugarte has had a difficult start to life in English football and it’s unlikely to be helped by a suspected calf injury sustained on international duty. The midfielder was withdrawn in the 82nd minute of Uruguay’s goalless draw with Ecuador on Wednesday.

It remains to be seen how serious the injury is for Ugarte but it certainly makes him a doubt ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brentford.

Mason Mount

The injury curse continues for Mason Mount in 2024/25. Having already spent some time on the sidelines this season, the former Chelsea midfielder suffered a head injury in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur which subsequently ruled him out of the trip to Villa Park.

Having had the past few weeks to recover, Mount should be available for the upcoming battle with Brentford, although Ten Hag will provide a clearer update before the match.

Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo was called up to the England squad for October but had to pull out after suffering a knock against Villa before the international break.

A precautionary move, one would expect Mainoo to return for the game against Brentford this weekend, but it remains to be seen how quickly he will recover.

Amad Diallo

Amad Diallo was an unused substitute in the draw with Villa before the international period and then joined up with Ivory Coast. However, he returned to Manchester after several days in Africa for “medical monitoring”.

It appears likely that Diallo will be available this weekend, although more details over his issue should be revealed prior to the Brentford game.

Alejandro Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho was forced to withdraw from the Argentina squad over the October break due to a knee injury he was suffering with in clashes against Porto and Villa.

“I had knee problems in the last two matches, and I won’t be able to be with the national team,” said the youngster on Instagram. “But I hope to recover so I can be on the next date [in November].”

It remains to be seen whether or not the South American will be fit for the weekend but it’s unlikely to be a long-term issue.
