Renee Slegers has credited Arsenal fans for their unwavering support this season, describing them as some of “the best” in the Women’s Super League.
The Gunners are getting ready to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday for the first north London derby of the 2024/25 campaign.
They will certainly be eager for revenge after their last visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ended in a 1-0 defeat, marking Spurs’ first-ever WSL win against the club.
Arsenal confirmed this week that their away allocation for the fixture has sold out, just days after more than 200 travelling fans descended upon Italy for their UEFA Women’s Champions League game against Juventus.

Interim head coach Slegers told 90min that the consistent support from Arsenal’s fanbase has a huge impact on the team’s performance.
“I can’t believe how much time and money they invest to watch us, both home and away. It’s brilliant. The players see it and feel it, and it really helps give us that extra little push. I’m biased, but in my opinion we have the best fans.”
Slegers will be wanting to continue her unbeaten run since taking over at Arsenal after Jonas Eidevall’s resignation in October. She’s secured WSL victories over West Ham and Brighton, and drew level with Manchester United.
In the Champions League she’s also recorded two wins, that’s included a 4-1 thrashing over Valerenga and a 4-0 finish against Juventus. Arsenal’s search for a new permanent head coach continues after recent reports that their ‘primary target’ Nick Cushing ruled himself out of the race.
When asked again why she wouldn’t want the job, Slegers responded: “I think this job is great, it’s very fun but demanding. I don’t think about it much, it’s only in press conferences that I’m asked about it.
“We have so much to do on a day-to-day basis and we have long days getting things right, and then I go home and play with my son and go to bed. Honestly, there is not much else in my life at the moment.”
Tottenham will be looking at this fixture as their opportunity to redefine themselves as a threat after a string of disappointing results, including a recent 4-0 loss to Manchester City.
