Negotiations over a new Liverpool contract for Mohamed Salah are still ongoing, but the club and player remain “far apart” from an agreement, according to a report.
Salah is one of three high-profile Liverpool players who are set to become free agents this summer. Together with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Egyptian forward’s contractual status has dominated the dialogue surrounding Liverpool – although the players appear unfazed.
Arne Slot’s side sit top of the Premier League table and Salah is adamant that the club can “win it all”. Whether he will remain on Merseyside after the end of June 2025 is less certain.
While Salah’s management team are still actively discussing their client’s various demands and expectations over his new deal, Sky Sports Germany report that no agreement has been reached nor is one even close.
Salah became the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history when he penned a three-year contract extension in the summer of 2022. Despite entering the autumn of his career, the 32-year-old remains arguably the best right winger in the world and has already hit double digits for goals and assists across all competitions.

Slot has been resolutely tight-lipped on the uncertain future of his star players. “In general, contract situations are talked about by the people who should talk about it,” the Dutch coach explained earlier this month.
“I’m one of them but I should not talk about this in public. I do talk about this with [sporting director] Richard [Hughes]. That’s the place that we have to talk about it and not in front of a microphone.”
Virgil van Dijk, another out-of-contract figure, hailed Salah as “a special, special player” after the forward had a hand in both goals during last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. “I see the hard work he puts in on a daily basis, and his consistency with his numbers and performances. He’s a special athlete and a legend of the club. I’m very pleased that we still share the pitch.”
