Arsenal have confirmed Gabriel Jesus suffered an ACL injury during the Gunners’ FA Cup defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

The striker was stretchered off inside the first half of the defeat and immediately sparked concern in the Arsenal dugout as he was in significant pain, with manager Mikel Arteta describing the issue as a “big worry”.

Fears of an ACL injury soon surfaced and Arsenal have now confirmed the devastating diagnosis.

“Further to being substituted during our match with Manchester United on Sunday, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” a club statement read.

“Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme.

“We will continue to keep everyone updated with Gabby’s recovery, with everyone at the club fully focused on supporting Gabby to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

Arsenal have not put a timeframe on Jesus’ return, but such injuries usually require a period of around nine months of rehabilitation, meaning he will not return to action until the late stages of 2025.

Jesus’ injury could force Arsenal into the transfer market in January but will also come as a huge blow to reported plans to sell the Brazilian in the summer. Jesus is under contract with the club until 2027.
