Manchester United are set to cut payments to another set of club legends as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ ongoing efforts to trim expenses, reports have revealed.

Ratcliffe has attracted significant criticism for overseeing a number of controversial cost cuts. Sir Alex Ferguson saw his ambassadorial salary slashed last year, while the INEOS chief was recently accused of secretly ending payments to a charity set up to support former players.

Meanwhile, a significant number of staff at the club were made redundant last year and ticket prices were increased, and now it appears as though INEOS’ quest to save money has seen them cut more ambassadorial deals.

talkSPORT were the first to reveal that United have informed club legends like Bryan Robson, Denis Irwin and Andy Cole that their ambassadorial salaries will be reduced.

Following on from that, the Daily Mail state the process of cutting salaries may not yet be finished, with United officials possibly setting their sights on agreements with a number of former players who work as “matchday legends”.

United are believed to be concerned about meeting Profit & Sustainability Rules and are looking to save money wherever possible, insisting these cuts are a necessary part of operating a business effectively.

On the pitch, those cost-cutting measures have also seen Ratcliffe and INEOS acknowledge that no player can be viewed as untouchable, sparking transfer interest in midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and winger Alejandro Garnacho.
