Lamine Yamal’s father has been discharged from hospital after being stabbed multiple times, according to reports in Spain.

The attack on Mounir Nasraoui is understood to have taken place in a car park in Mataro, near Barcelona, with his condition described by local media, citing official but unnamed sources, as serious but stable.

Spanish publication Relevo say Nasraoui has been released from hospital following the incident, with newspaper La Vanguardia adding that arrests have made been made.

17-year-old Yamal has established himself as a global sensation after starring role for Spain during their victorious Euro 2024 campaign. Starting on the opposite flank to Nico Williams, he tormented La Roja’s opponents during the group stage and scored a sensational goal to help Spain equalise against France in a semi-final clash they went on to win 2-1.

Yamal then provided the assist for Williams’ opening goal against England in the final, with the game eventually settled by a late goal from substitute Mikel Oyarzabal.

The 2024/25 campaign is expected to see Yamal emerge as a key figure for Barcelona. He was fast-tracked into the first team last season by then head coach Xavi, making 37 appearances in La Liga and a further 13 in all competitions.

His performances for the Catalan giants earned a call-up to Spain’s European Championship squad, and Yamal went on to break a number of records at the tournament. As well as his goalscoring and assist antics, he became the youngest player to start a game at the Euros and then earned the record of youngest goalscorer.

Yamal picked up the award for best young player – teammate Rodri took the senior gong – and his sensational showings mean all eyes are on him as Barcelona look to wrestle La Liga’s title back from the clutches of arch-rivals Real Madrid.
