Lecce manager Marco Giampaolo has praised Patrick Dorgu for managing to rediscover his focus amid significant interest in his services from Manchester United.
Dorgu is United’s top target to reinforce at left-back but the Red Devils have so far failed to meet Lecce’s price tag of €40m (£33.8m). They have submitted two offers for the Denmark international, the last of which was worth €30m (£25.3m).
Giampaolo admitted the speculation had taken its toll on Dorgu initially, but the 20-year-old has managed to switch off from the reports recently.
“This week he was good, last week he was a bit distracted,” Giampaolo said. “He is 20 years old, everyone is talking about him, the best European teams are calling for him, it’s normal and he’s human.
“However, he is very mature. Last week he certainly had a drop in attention, but in the last few days I have seen him well, I have spoken to him and I don’t think the transfer market is upsetting him.”
United are expected to return with a third bid for Dorgu, who is thought to be keen on the move, but ESPN state the Red Devils are now looking at re-signing Alvaro Carreras from Benfica if they cannot sign Dorgu.
Carreras left United’s academy last summer but is available for a buy-back clause of around €18m (£15.2m). However, he did recently insist he is in no rush to leave the Portuguese side.
