Arsenal have released their financial figures for the completed 2023/24 season, highlighting an increasingly healthy picture of growth at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners still made a loss during the campaign in question, but at £17.7m it was considerably smaller than the £52.1m lost in 2022/23.
The headline news from the latest accounts is the massive growth in revenue. Arsenal brought in a club record £616.6m for the season, up more than 30% on the previous year.
The results are clear proof of Champions League football’s importance. Competing in Europe’s premier club competition for the first time in seven seasons was a major factor in revenue booming as it did. Both broadcasting and matchday revenues soared as a result of the club’s involvement.
Elsewhere, the second year of a new commercial strategy yielded positive results, pushing towards £220m, up from just under £170m in 2022/23. Principally, there was an extension with Emirates and a naming rights deal with Sobha Realty for the training ground, as well as secondary partnerships.
The primary reason for the balance sheet ultimately still recording a loss, despite the huge revenue growth, was an additional cost of almost £100m spent on wages.
But music to the ears of all Arsenal fans at a time when teams across the board are struggling to meet financial regulations was the following statement: “The club continues to be compliant with all applicable financial sustainability regulations put in place by UEFA and the Premier League.”
